Ali Ibn Rachid - 2026

Ali Ibn Rachid

Ali Ibn Rachid is one of the long-standing names of the Slovak alternative music scene. Ľubo Burgr's project has been active since 1991 and throughout its existence has retained its characteristic artistic freedom, rejection of musical clichés, and strong emphasis on lyrics, sonic experimentation and authenticity.

The latest chapter in the project's story is its fourth studio album, Ružové dieťa (Pink Child). Although it was initially released digitally, a vinyl edition followed at the beginning of the year. Burgr does not see the album as a calculated concept, but rather as the result of the joy of playing and an authentic capture of a particular creative moment.

The album's title was inspired by a chance encounter with a six-year-old girl wearing a pink jacket. This simple impulse also reflects the way Ali Ibn Rachid approaches music – intuitively, without the need for grand gestures or unambiguous explanations.

Ľubo Burgr collaborated with Ladislav Mirwald in Brno on the album's distinctive sound. The recording combines the rawness of bass guitar, ambient noises and unexpected rhythmic shifts. Burgr, who is also the founder of the Skrat theatre, brings together experiences from different artistic environments in his music, with minimalism, humility and creative freedom playing an important role in his work.

The full interview with Ľubo Burgr about the album Ružové dieťa, creativity, minimalism and artistic freedom is available on the Novotvar Festival YouTube channel.
